portrait of melbourne artist Morgana Celeste in her studio

Hi there! (Yes, that’s me on the left.) Thanks for visiting, I’m excited and honoured you’re here. I’ve been a creative person for as long as I can remember, and for the last 10 years I’ve been focusing that creativity into my work as a florist.

Flowers, and the natural world still play a huge part in my creative practice, featuring often at exhibitions and as inspiration for many of my art pieces. My current art practice started almost accidentally back in 2017, and really took off for me in Melbourne’s deep, long lockdowns. Back then, we lived in an old miners cottage which was kind of nice but also a bit grim. To freshen it up I made five art pieces, with no intention of showing the world. Before long, I’d made about twenty more. I couldn’t stop!

I guess i could have, but I didn’t want to. Soon we had art in every room, all down our hallway and then other people wanted some for their homes as well.

These works are created using an unconventional mix of materials: paper pulp, fine cement and high quality acrylic paint, each piece draws attention to the medium’s tactile quality and (imho) surprising beauty, rendered unrecognisable from its original form and intended use. The hand worked nature of every piece aims to encourage a tactile response in the viewer - that’s you! Once fluid and malleable, the hardened surface preserves a physical memory of my gestures as well as the feelings and visual stimuli present at the moment of creation.

Each piece is air dried, and therefore making art tends to be more seasonal, as works produced in winter can take up to two weeks to dry.

Creating these artworks for my walls and yours is a true joy. Playful, free and spontaneous.

Usually made in one sitting a painting is the result of gathered thoughts, feelings and imagery from that sliver of time.
