At the end of our street in Winter, the road curves upwards, so that it meets the horizon. The sunset can look like a shimmering fire, glowing like a portal to another dimension, suspended there at the top of the asphalt.
What a miracle to be able to see such a thing! Scuttling clouds, as the light trickles into navy.
I began this piece in 2021 as a black and white study but it never felt quite right. After some time I re-worked it until the push and pull of colour and shadow felt balanced.
